An ATS-Friendly Resume Template for Recent Graduates
This resume template for recent graduates was designed for graduating students and other starting-level candidates with little employment experience. From the Powerlift Collection, the resume template provides space to call out a strong excerpt from a written reference. Recent graduates may have written reference letters from professors or other teachers that they could pull an excerpt from to include in this space.
Other features that make this an excellent choice as a resume template for recent graduates include the emphasis on education over work experience, including space for including coursework that is relevant to the graduating student's career goals.
It is very important to focus your resume. The prospective employer needs to know at just a glance how and where you would fit in the company. The "TARGET:" section of this resume provides space for this. But, be careful not to phrase this as a traditional objective statement. Objective statements are rarely used on resumes anymore. Resumes should be written to tell the reader what you offer them. An objective on the other hand tells the reader what you want from them. This is a subtle but important distinction.
How then do you focus your resume without an objective? Simple. Just state the focus. For example, if you are targeting a marketing associate job your target statement should read "TARGET: Marketing Associate." If you are targeting a sales job in the software industry, your target statement should read "TARGET: Software Industry Sales Representative."
Once you have established your target on its resume template for recent graduates, be thoughtful and strategic about what you include in the rest of the resume. Include only relevant information. To help with this, think about the needs of the employer. What will they be seeking in a candidate for the type of job you are targeting? Now write your resume to show how you have the qualifications and strengths they are seeking.
